Hello my dear Histamines and Anti-histamines!
Remember when we were in our twenties and our stomachs were basically garbage grinders, processing anything and everything we ingested without a hiccup (literally)? Well, my fellow warriors, those Jurassic heedless eating days are long gone. Bring in the histamine intolerance era with its long list of 'absolutely nots' and 'only in moderation'.
Some days I think my refrigerator is mocking me with its abundance of spinach (high histamine - who knew?), while my poor gut wonders what the heck is going on. Hence, welcome to the 'Histamine Hullabaloo', where we embrace the chaos before we chase out the villains.
While some days feel like a full-scale histamine riot in my tummy, I've learnt to play this low histamine concerto with unexpected grace. Let me guide you through my score of this wild journey!
First things first: acceptance. As I kissed my cheese goodnight, chorizo goodbye and bid adieu to my battalion of beer cans, I felt like I was breaking up with some very dear but oh-so-wrong-for-me boyfriends. But ever heard the saying 'all good things come to an end'? If distressingly bloated, distressed tummy counts as a happy ending, then well...I rest my case.
The solution? Let's spice up our diet (but not literally, fellow histamine intolerant readers, you get me?). Look at your plate as a blank canvas begging for a splash of low-histamine colors that happen to be delectable as well. Say hello to everything fresh, especially fruits and vegetables that have just taken a bath. Keep them as fresh as your thirties (wink wink).
The next step is to sweat it out, literally. I was never a gym junkie or a yoga goddess. But guess what? Your body and mind love a bit of stretching and sweating, and it helps to keep those histamine levels in check. Even my not-so-peaceful downward dog will agree (his version of agreeing is to topple me over, though).
While I can't put all my tips into a single picnic basket, let's not forget the best secret: laughter and positivity. You might be giving up a few things on your plate but, in return, you're gaining a life that's light-hearted, easy on your digestive system, and as upbeat as a polka-dot skirt on a sunny day.
So step into this hullabaloo and prance around with me - we may be off-key, slightly out of rhythm, and as green about histamines as fresh-cut cucumbers, but hey, we're laughing and dancing our way towards a healthier, low-histamine day!
Enjoy your low histamine day,
Your Matilda
